Friday morning: What's in the news ...

1. The Nashville soccer stadium project hit another snag when a lawsuit filed by the Save Our Fairgrounds group has been allowed to go to trial. The lawsuit alleges multiple conflicts of interests in bids and contracts and violation of  procurement laws for the proposed stadium slated to be built at Fairground Nashville. The stadium was approved in late 2017 by the Metro Nashville city council but Mayor John Cooper and Nashville SC have been at an impasse over terms of the stadium deal and a piece of land that is part of the stadium deal.

2. Former NWSL commissioner Jeff Plush has been hired as the new USA Curling CEO. Plush, who previously was the managing director of the Colorado Rapids, was the first NWSL commissioner, serving for two years (2015-17). He left shortly after NWSL landed a commercial deal with A+E Networks.

3. The UPSL national championships will kick off on Saturday with the semifinals: Maryland Bobcats FC vs. Soda City FC (S.C.) and Santa Ana (Calif.) Winds FC vs. Foro SC (Texas). Saturday's semifinals and Sunday's final will be played at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, and air on MyCujoo.tv.
