Youth: 1999 USYSA national championship award winners

Besides awarding the winning teams, U.S. Youth Soccer and its sponsors honored the best sports, the most productive goal scorers and the best goalkeepers at the 1999 USYSA national championship at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Following are the winners in each age group, along with a brief description of the award:

SNICKERS Fair Play Award

Teams displaying exemplary conduct on and off the field are considered for this award. The winners are selected by referees, state representatives and the National Championship Committee. SNICKERS also sponsors the Fair Play program at the state and regional levels of the USYSA national championship to encourage positive conduct and respect for the game among players, coaches, officials, spectators and the media. Here are the Fair Play Award winners: U-16 Boys -- Texas Longhorns. U-17 Boys -- Braddock Road (Va.) Warhawks. U-18 Boys -- Tacoma (Wash.) FC United. U-19 Boys -- La Jolla (Calif.) Nomads. adidas Golden Boot Award

Adidas presents the leading goal scorer in each boys and girls age group with the Golden Boot Award, modeling it after the trophy given to the top scorers in international competitions such as the men's and women's World Cups. Here are the winners: U-16 Boys -- Ned Grabavoy (Chicago Magic SC) 3 goals. U-17 Boys -- Abe Thompson (Braddock Road, Va. Warhawks) 3 goals. U-18 Boys -- Scott Burcar (Tacoma, Wash. FC United) 4 goals. U-19 Boys -- Shane Walton (La Jolla, Calif. Nomads) 4 goals. U-16 Girls -- Katie McGregor (Windsor, Conn. World Class), Kristen Teeter (Spring, Texas Challenge) and Tiffany Wiemer (Windsor, Conn. World Class) 3 goals. U-17 Girls -- Kate Ling (Colorado Rush Nike) 2 goals. U-18 Girls -- Beth Totman (Northport/Cow Harbor, N.Y. Piranha) 4 goals. U-19 Girls -- Nicky Thrasher (Spring, Texas Challenge) 3 goals.

Adidas honors the top goalkeeper in each boys and girls age group, as selected by a vote of coaches, state representatives and the National Championship Committee. U-16 Boys -- Jeff Klitzke (Chicago Magic SC). U-17 Boys -- Eric Earnhardt (Braddock Road, Va. Warhawks). U-18 Boys -- Jeremy Proud (Tacoma, Wash. FC United). U-19 Boys -- Curtis Spiteri (La Jolla, Calif. Nomads). U-16 Girls -- Courtney Nelson (Windsor, Conn. World Class). U-17 Girls -- Kristen Winters (Colorado Rush Nike).
