FC Cincinnati's Darren Mattocks
is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 27 on two felony charges filed against him in Pennsylvania,
Mattocks, 29, was charged with one count of making a
false, fraudulent or incomplete insurance claim and another count of theft by deception in a complaint filed on Dec. 5, 2019.
Both are third-degree felonies punishable by not more than
seven years in prison and up to $15,000 in fines.
The Jamaican was released on $50,000 bail and a formal arraignment is scheduled
at the Court of Common Pleas
in Washington County, located south of Pittsburgh.
The Cincinnati Enquirer first reported
the charges against Mattocks,
who was slated to begin his second season with FC Cincinnati. He hasn't played in FCC's five preseason games.
The former University of Akron star previously played in MLS for Vancouver,
Portland and D.C. United. He has scored 37 goals over 182 games in eight MLS seasons.
Mattocks has been a regular for the Jamaican national team. He scored the opening goal in the 2-1
semifinal victory over the USA in the 2015 Gold Cup semifinals. He scored the winning goal in the Reggae Boyz's 1-0 win over Panama in the 2019 Gold Cup quarterfinals.
