MLS 2020: Clubs load up on Homegrown Players as SuperDraft path fades

With one week to go before the start of the 2020 MLS season, clubs have signed almost three times as many amateur players as Homegrown Players as players who were selected in the 2020 SuperDraft.

In all, only 19 of the 41 amateur players whom MLS clubs have signed played college soccer, and just nine of them played four seasons.

Already one player has made his pro debut. Midfielder Bryce Duke, who played at the Barca Residency Academy in Arizona and whose Homegrown rights LA acquired from Real Salt Lake, came on in the second half of LAFC's 2-0 loss at Leon in the Concacaf Champions League.

In the next week, there will be more signings as clubs break camp and fill out the bottom end of their rosters. The Seattle Sounders are expected to sign as many as three Homegrown Players from Tacoma Defiance.
