CCL Recap: Atlanta United cruises thanks to Pity and Josef Martinez

Atlanta United advanced to the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League for the second year in a row thanks to a 3-0 win over Honduran club Motagua in the second leg of their series at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw.

The victory gave the Five Stripes a 4-1 aggregate win and moved them into the quarterfinals against Club America or Comunicaciones. The likely matchup against America would be a repeat of the 2019 Campeones Cup that Atlanta United won, 3-2.

In one of his best outings since arriving in 2019, Argentine Pity Martinez scored two goals, while Josef Martinez added the third goal.

They also assisted on the three goals the other scored -- Josef Martinez with a back-heel after a one-two on the edge of the 18-yard box and a ball won after a violent collision, and Pity Martinez with a through ball into the right side of the box.

Next up:
Atlanta plays at the Club America-Comunicaciones March 10-12 and then hosts March 17-19 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
