U.S. Youth Soccer cancels National League events scheduled for Las Vegas

U.S. Youth Soccer's National League showcase scheduled for Las Vegas March 13-15 and March 20-22 has been cancelled on account of the ongoing acceleration of the coronavirus in communities across the country.

The Las Vegas showcase was slated to welcome 208 National League boys and girls teams in the U-14 to U-19 age groups.

“We understand and share the disappointment with our players, coaches and families,” USYS chairman Dr. Pete Zopfi said. “Regrettably, the air travel environment, and related information and recommendations presented to us from public health authorities and medical professionals have convinced us that this is the most prudent decision.”

The Las Vegas stop was slated to be the final National League event of the year. Its held in conjunction with the Players College Showcase, which is still being played, per a message posted Tuesday on the tournament's web site.

The National League serves as qualifying for the US Youth Soccer National Championships.

The first of four regional championships is slated to begin June 15 in Boise, Idaho. This year's National Championships are scheduled to be played July 20-26 in Overland Park, Kansas.
