SA TV Choice: LaLiga aims to entertain and combat COVID-19 with in-house music/soccer fest

Millions of families begin their second week hunkered down at home this weekend but there is little sports content available on TV. Enter Spain’s LaLiga.

LaLiga is providing some entertainment relief this Saturday when it hosts the “Santander Fest,” a live TV and global charity event featuring players from all 20 La Liga clubs and 20 internationally known music artists — think Alejandro Sanz, David Bisbal and Aitana.

The idea is to bring music and sport together to combat the coronavirus. All of the players and artists will be performing from home, and the macro-fundraiser’s proceeds are going to the Spanish government's health priorities in coordination with the High Sports Council (CSD).

"LaLiga wants to support everyone who is in quarantine and raise money to buy medical supplies to deal with COVID-19," said Óscar Mayo, director of International Development at La Liga. "We are very happy with the response we have received from all fronts: soccer players, clubs, artists and sponsors have all joined together for this initiative.”

No one is quite sure what this is going to look like, so it might actually be some fun to check in on it at 1pm ET this Saturday. Soccer America wagers that you won’t be doing much else this weekend, anyway.

Who: La Liga players and famous music artists.
What: An at-home TV festival.
When: Saturday, 1 pm ET.
Where: BeIN Sports, LaLigaTV, or wherever you watch LaLiga.
