Philadelphia Union player tests positive for novel coronavirus

An unidentified Philadelphia Union player has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The player is feeling well and is in good spirits after reporting mild symptoms, according to the club.

He is believed to be the first MLS player to have contracted the illness. NYCFC announced on March 19 that a member of its sporting staff tested positive.

The Union said no other players or staff at the club needed to be tested since the case fell beyond the 14-day window where anyone with team-related interactions with the player would have reported symptoms.

Union players and staff have not been at Subaru Park or the training facility, both located in Chester. The last date they were together was on March 12, the date MLS had teams shut down playing operations across the league.
