Freddy Fuentes, coach of two nationally ranked Manhattan SC teams, passes away

Freddy Fuentes, who coached some of the top youth teams in the New York area in his 15 years with Manhattan SC, died on Wednesday from COVID-19 related complications.

Fuentes was was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Guayaquil, and played semipro soccer in Ecuador before he played for various teams in New York area ethnic leagues in the 1990s.

In 2019-20, Fuentes was coaching the 2002 Titans and 2004 Thunder in the Manhattan SC program. Both were top 10-ranked teams nationally in their age groups.

Statement from Manhattan SC:
It is with very heavy hearts that we inform you that Freddy Fuentes passed away this morning of COVID-19 related complications. Freddy has been a major part of MSC for over 15 years and he was a great coach, mentor, and loyal friend. This is a sad day for all of us and our sympathies and condolences go out to his family - Freddy's wife Andrea and their three young children - Freddy Alejandro, William, and Liam.

We will provide details of services as they become available as well as additional ways to help support the Fuentes family in their time of need.

Rest in peace, Freddy - know that you made an incalculable and positive difference on so many lives with your friendship, loyalty, and incredible coaching.
