NISA approves New Amsterdam FC as its newest member

The National Independent Soccer Association approved New York-based New Amsterdam FC as its newest member.

The announcement did not mention when the team will begin play other than that it will play "post COVID-19" and participate in the NISA FIFA 20 tournament, beginning on Friday.

New Amsterdam FC is expected to play out of The Bronx at Fordham University’s Coffey Field.

NISA, a Division III pro league approved by U.S. Soccer, kicked off its spring season with eight teams: four in California, two in Michigan and one each in North Carolina and Tennessee. The New York Cosmos will join NISA for its fall 2020 season.

David Villa's Queensboro FC will join the USL Championship in 2021 and play its games on the campus of York College in Queens. That will give the New York area four men's pro clubs below MLS. The New York Red Bulls II play in the USL Championship out of Montclair State University in New Jersey.

NISA attendance (Weeks 1-2):
5,603 Oakland Roots vs. Chattanooga FC (Feb. 29)
