What They're Saying: Kathy DeBoer

“Dropping programs is not emergency legislation, it’s extinction, and you don’t recover from it, and that’s the part of it that we want taken off the table.”

-- Kathy DeBoer, executive director of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, on the proposal to allow NCAA Division I athletic departments to reduce the minimum number of programs it must sponsor, one of several waivers they are seeking with emergency NCAA  legislation to be able to adopt cost-saving measures amid the coronavirus outbreak. Soccer is among the non-revenue sports that are pushing back against the proposal. DeBoer proposes consideration for less drastic measures like reducing the size of traveling squads, support staff and the number of matches a sport plays. (Los Angeles Times)
