Earthquakes teenager Gilbert Fuentes out 2-3 months after being injured in accident at home

Gilbert Fuentes, the 18-year-old San Jose Earthquakes midfielder, required surgery after fracturing his clavicle in an accident at home.

Fuentes underwent surgery performed by Dr. Richard Gayle on Thursday at Sutter Health and is expected to be sidelined 2-3 months. The Earthquakes are the only MLS club who have been unable to start individual workouts.

Fuentes signed a Homegrown Player contract with San Jose in January 2018 as a 15-year-old, becoming the youngest player in club history at the time. He represented the USA at the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship where he made appearances.

He's made two MLS appearance for the Earthquakes -- one for one minute in 2018 and one for two minutes in 2019 -- and began the 2020 season on loan to the USL Championship's Reno 1868.
