The 20-year-old American Josh Sargent scored his fourth goal of the season in a crucial win for Werder Bremen. A halftime sub, Sargent scored the final goal of a 6-1 win over FCCologne that, combined with Fortuna Duesseldorf’s 3-1 loss to Union Berlin, prevented outright relegation for Bremen. Werder Bremen now needs to win a playoff against the second division’s third-placeteam — Heidenheim or Hamburg SV — to remain in the top tier.
