In the aftermath of the opening day of the NWSL Challenge Cup in Utah, the NWSL has revised its pre-game ceremonies to provide "additional flexibility for players to participate as they see fit."

The national anthem will still be played, but players will have the option of being on the field or in their locker room.
In a statement, the league said the
decision to still play the national anthem and adopt the new policy was made following conversations with NWSL players as well as club officials and what it described as "other stakeholders."
MLS has already said it won't play the national team at the MLS in Back Tournament in Florida.
NWSL commissioner Lisa Baird
said that among the goals of the tournament were
"to support and empower players to use their platform to make the world a better place." She said the league was going to continue to "support each player’s right to express their individual
views, or not."
