NWSL revises pre-game ceremonies at Challenge Cup

In the aftermath of the opening day of the NWSL Challenge Cup in Utah, the NWSL has revised its pre-game ceremonies to provide "additional flexibility for players to participate as they see fit."

Starters from both the Portland Timbers and North Carolina knelt during the playing of the national anthem, but not all starters from the Chicago Red Stars and Washington Spirit did in the nightcap.

The national anthem will still be played, but players will have the option of being on the field or in their locker room.

In a statement, the league said the decision to still play the national anthem and adopt the new policy was made following conversations with NWSL players as well as club officials and what it described as "other stakeholders."

MLS has already said it won't play the national team at the MLS in Back Tournament in Florida.

NWSL commissioner Lisa Baird said that among the goals of the tournament were "to support and empower players to use their platform to make the world a better place." She said the league was going to continue to "support each player’s right to express their individual views, or not."

(NYPost 6-25-20) Patrisse Cullors "We are trained Marxists. We are super-versed on, sort of, ideological theories. And I think that what we really tried to do is build a movement that could be utilized by many, many black folk,” Cullors added in the interview with Jared Ball of The Real News Network."
“The first thing, I think, is that we actually do have an ideological frame. Myself and Alicia in particular are trained organizers,” she said, referring to BLM co-founder Alicia Garza.

She wrote a Book on it: "While promoting her book “When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir” in 2018, Cullors described her introduction to and support for Marxist ideology."

    Here we go again.
soviet union and USA destroyed the Olympics by going tit for tat on boycott the Olympics.
lets not repeat this in soccer, just don't play the National anthem at the games, why we insist on this national pride at domestic games.
if they insist to play there is only one version that should ever play and it's Whitney Houston.
any other version is an abomination.
and take a knee for her awesome voice

Houston was very good, the rest an abamonation? There are many renditions that are strong. I'll play along with you now, don't have the anthem. Do you think the Wokesters won't find some other form of self-hatred, expression, to put in everyone's face?
