Atlanta United signed Mexico international Jurgen Damm
as a free agent from Tigres.
Damm has not lived up the hype from early in his Liga MX career, but he gives the Five Stripes a
boost at wingback in their 3-4-2-1 formation following Julian Gressel
's trade to D.C. United in the offseason.
He will join Atlanta United in August after it returns from the MLS
is Back Tournament.
“He’s excelled in Liga MX, as well on the international level with the Mexican national team," said Atlanta United technical director Carlos
, "and we believe he can make an immediate impact in MLS. Jurgen is versatile to play on either wing, and with his pace and ability to beat defenders 1v1 to deliver a cross, he gives us
another valuable weapon in our attack.”
Damm, 27, has played in Liga MX with Estudiantes Tecos, Pachuca and Tigres, where he was a part of four championship teams (Liga MX
Apertura 2015, 2016 and 2017 and Liga MX Clausura 2019). He debuted for Mexico in 2015 and has made 12 total appearances for El Tri.
Damm’s contract with Tigres expired at the end
of the 2019-20 season, making him as a free agent. Atlanta United acquired his Discovery Rights from Houston Dynamo in exchange for $50,000 in General Allocation Money. Atlanta United roster: Goalkeepers (3):
