Covid-19: USL League One season opener at South Georgia postponed

Saturday's USL League One season opener between South Georgia Tormenta FC and the Richmond Kickers at Erk Russell Park in Statesboro was postponed after Covid-19 test results for two individuals on Tormenta FC's covered persons list were unconfirmed positives.

The individuals were immediately isolated at home and recovering in good spirits under the care of team physicians and infectious disease experts.

The South Georgia-Richmond game was one of two scheduled on the opening weekend of play in League One's second season. Fort Lauderdale CF, Inter Miami's second team, hosts Greenville Triumph SC at Inter Miami CF Stadium on Saturday.

The revised format will see each of League One’s teams play 20 games across 15 weeks in the regular season to determine the two teams that will meet in the League One final.

The third division league begins the 2020 season with 11 teams. Toronto FC II dropped out because of travel restrictions to and from Canada.
