USL Championship: Kenardo Forbes breaks all-time assist record

Kenardo Forbes broke the USL Championship record for career assists when he had two assists in the first half of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds' 4-0 win over Philadelphia Union II on Saturday to give him 38 in six seasons.

The 32-year-old Jamaican broke the record held by Maikel Chang, who recorded 37 assists with the Charleston Battery and Real Monarchs before signing with the Monarchs' parent club, Real Salt Lake, for the 2020 season.

The record-tying assist came on a cross to Steevan Dos Santos and he broke the record on a corner kick Thomas Vancaeyezeele headed into the goal. The two assists give him seven in five games for the unbeaten Riverhounds, who lead the USL Championship's Group F.

Forbes first came to the United States to play for the Syracuse Silver Knights (now Utica City FC) of the Major Arena Soccer League, where he is the team's all-time leading scorer.

He helped the Rochester Rhinos win the 2015 USL Pro League title. After three seasons in Rochester, he joined the Riverhounds in 2018. He was a second-team all-league pick in 2018 and a first-team all-league pick and MLS finalist in 2019.
