Luca de la Torre headed to Dutch Eredivisie club Heracles

After seven seasons and just seven first-team league appearances, Luca de la Torre has left promoted English Premier League club Fulham for Heracles of the Dutch Eredivisie.

De La Torre, 22, is a native of California and moved to Fulham from San Diego Surf when he was 16 He made his league debut for the Cottagers in October 2017 when they were in the League Championship. All seven appearances were off the bench. None came in 2018-19 when Fulham was in the Premier League.

Fulham won promotion this week with a 2-1 win over Brentford in the playoff final. De la Torre made only two appearances in 2018-19 and dressed only once after the restart in June. His one senior cap came in 2018 against Ireland.

Heracles, based in Almelo, a town of 70,000 located in the eastern Netherlands, finished eighth in the 2019-20 Eredivisie, which was halted in March. It is scheduled to open the 2020-21 season on Sept. 13.

    Sadly, the UK is no place to develop young players. Maybe if they grew up in a futsal environment there, but at 16 he would have been better served with a move the NL, Spain or Germany instead.

    R2, good point.  This can't be a happy occasion for him.  It would have been better if it were the other way  round
