Timbers lose Sebastian Blanco for season with torn ACL

Sebastian Blanco, who led the Portland Timbers to the MLS is Back Tournament championship, was lost for the remainder of the 2020 MLS season after he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in Sunday’s 2-1 win at Seattle.

Blanco, 32, was injured in the second minute of the game in Seattle, landing awkwardly after a challenge from Sounders midfielder Joao Paulo.

Blanco, who will undergo surgery on Monday, was named the MLS is Back Player of the Tournament with three goals and five assists in seven games. His five assists in nine regular-season games are tied for third in MLS with Minnesota United's Jan Gregus and behind only Toronto FC's Alejandro Pozuelo (8 assists) and Darwin Quintero (6).

The Argentine joined the Timbers in 2017 and helped them reach MLS Cup 2018. He has 33 goals and 39 assists in 121 appearances across all competitions
