Semifinal hero Sam Mewis is quickly learning the importance of the FA Women's Cup

Sam Mewis scored her first goal since moving to England, leading Manchester City into the FA Women's Cup final against Everton with the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Arsenal.

Mewis' goal broke a 1-1 tie in the 40th minute. The game marked the debut of fellow American Rose Lavelle, who entered the game in the 65th minute.

Manchester City and Everton will meet in the final at Wembley Stadium on Nov. 1. The final will complete the 2019-20 competition, which was suspended after the round of 16 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"I'm new here but this tournament is so renowned," Mewis said afterwards. "I feel like I only have a minimal understanding but I know it means so much -- you could see from my teammates' reaction -- and now it's starting to mean so much to me too."
