-- French national team coach Corinne Diacre tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the Bleues' Euro
2022 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Austria. Goalkeeper coach Gilles Fouache also is isolating after testing positive.
Diacre came under fire for dropping captain Amandine Henry from the camp, citing her need to regain her form after returning from injury. Henry said she was shocked by the decision, while Wendie Renard, her teammate at Lyon and on the national team, said the atmosphere in the team wasn't good and the image the team was portraying to the soccer world was not the national team should be portraying.
Reynald Pedros, the head coach of five-time defending European champion Lyon, said his players have " a knot in the stomach" when they head off on national team duty.
-- American Melissa Phillips has been hired as the head coach of the Women's Championship's London City Lionesses. Phillips had been interim coach and before that assistant head coach under Lisa Fallon, who quit recently for family reasons. The Lionesses are 10th in the 11-team Championship after Sunday's 1-0 loss at Blackburn Rovers.
Phillips was previously the assistant coach at Penn. She was the youngest head coach at the NCAA Division I level in 2011-13 when she coached at Cal State Bakersfield.
