Women in Europe: PSG ends Lyon's unbeaten streak dating back to 2016

Paris St. Germain handed Lyon its first loss in the Division 1 Arkema in almost four years with a 1-0 decision.

Lyon had an unbeaten streak of 80 games snapped. Its last defeat in league play was on Dec. 12, 2016, when it fell to PSG, 1-0. Its last defeat of any kind in official competition was a 1-0 loss to PSG in the French Cup final in May 2018.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto scored the winner on Friday. She also had the goal in the 2018 cup final.

Lyon star Eugenie Le Sommer was injured in the game and will miss France's European Championship qualifying matches against Austria and Kazakhstan. France and Austria are tied for first place in Group G, and the winner will qualify for the finals in England in 2022.

The nine group winners and the three runners-up with the best record against the teams in first, third, fourth and fifth place in their groups will join England in the finals. The other six runners-up will play off in April for the remaining three berths.

Six teams have already qualified for the Women's Euro: Denmark, England, Germany, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden in addition to England. The tournament was pushed back to 2022 when the men's Euro was moved from 2020 to 2021.

Sorry to hear about Le Sommer injury, but thank god Lyon were defeated--Arkema desperately needs parity before it turns in to Ligue 1.
