US Youth Soccer has postponed its National League events scheduled for Greensboro, North Carolina, on Dec. 4-7, and Tampa, Florida, on Dec. 27-30.
Given the surge in COVID-19 cases, US Youth Soccer made the decision to postpone the showcase series and playoff competitions. Teams that have been forced to pull out due to COVID-19 cases and travel restrictions put in place by local and state officials.
The North Carolina event at the BB&T Soccer Complex at Bryan Park in Greensboro was slated to be the first event of the new National League competitions. The National League event scheduled for Las Vegas on Dec. 11-13 was already cancelled after Nevada health authorities shut down tournament events.
The next scheduled USYS national events are Jan. 15-17 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
The ECNL held its first girls national showcase since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down sports in the spring when 170 teams from 14 states played at the Reach 11 Sports Complex Nov. 13-15 in Phoenix.
A second ECNL girls event is still scheduled to begin Friday with 134 teams signed up to play at the Mesa Soccer Complex in Greer, South Carolina. The first ECNL boys event will be Dec. 11-13 in Greer with 154 boys teams signed up to compete in six age groups.
