What They're Saying: Peter Bronsmanis

“My opinion and that of the board is that having a women’s elite team is not compatible with 2021. The big four men’s teams have their own women’s teams. We have done what we promised. We have created a lot of role models and got a lot of [girls] to start playing football.”

-- Peter Bronsmanis, chairman of 2020 Swedish women's league champion Göteborg FC, on the club's decision to dissolve the senior team and release all players from their pro contracts just over a month after it won the Damallsvenskan for the first time. The move comes after brewery Kopparbergs, the club’s title sponsor, cut off its investment in the team. Bronsmanis, the Kopparbergs CEO, said the club couldn't compete with Europe's big soccer clubs investing in women's soccer. (Gotesborg-Posten in Swedish)
