Watch: Weston McKennie score against Serie A leader AC Milan

The 22-year-old American Weston McKennie  came on for Juventus in the 64th minute, forced a good save on AC Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 71st minute after smoothly settling a fine Cristiano Ronaldo pass, and made it a 3-1 win in the 76th minute. The victory moved Juventus into fourth place. It trails AC Milan by seven points, Inter Milan by six and AS Roma by three -- and has a game in hand on the top three. Federico Chiesascored Juventus' first two goals against AC Milan.

It's hard not to get fairly optimistic about the course correction in US soccer. I remmeber when John Harkes scored a goal at Wembley and how it was almost seminal, an AMERICAN could hold his own on the world stage! Not that I'm a Spring Chicken, but that wasn't exactly a lifetime ago, and when you look at the clubs that generation played for that used to get us excited is really a moment to think about just yesterray alone. Weston scores again for Juventus, this time against AC Milan after earlier scoring on Barcelona. Steffen with a clean sheet with Man City against Man United. Still so far to go, but these two acheivements happening on the same day with hardly fanfare says something, when just 3 or 4 years ago either one of them would have been absolutely huge news in US soccer.

Very exciting stuff, true. But I watch WM play for Juventus and compare how he plays for the USMNT and my shoulders sag. Without discipline, he's a headless chicken out there when he plays for the Nats. I hope Berhalter can rein him in between now and the world cup.

R2 I played very close attention to him in the last friendlies and he looked like a different player to me: steady, calm, composed and bossing the midfield.
