Yanks Abroad: Henry Wingo moves to Hungarian champion Ferencvaros

Henry Wingo has been transferred from Norway's Molde to Hungarian champion Ferencvaros.

He joined Molde midway through the 2019 season from the Seattle Sounders and became a starter at right back for the 2019 Eliteserien champion and 2020 runner-up.

He played eight games for Molde in UEFA Champions League qualifying and Europa League in 2020. Molde reached the final stage of Champions League qualifying, where it lost to Ferencvaros, then advanced to the round of 32 of the Europa League against Hoffenheim in February.

Ferencvaros, winner of 31 Hungarian league titles, leads the 2020-21 NB1 by nine points with a game in hand. It finished last in its Champions League group and is out of Europe.

Wingo spent three seasons at the University of Washington before signing with the Sounders in 2017. He only made 22 appearances (three starts) in three seasons so the transfer fee -- reportedly in the range of $250,000 -- and sell-on fee -- 20 percent of the fee believed to be in excess of $920,000 Molde will receive from Ferencvaros -- is quite a haul for the Sounders.
