Florida State midfielder Jaelin Howell has replaced Samantha Mewis on the U.S. national team roster for the SheBelieves Cup, which starts on Thursday.
Mewis suffered an ankle injury in the USA’s match against Colombia on Jan. 22 and has not played for Manchester City in the Women’s Super League since her return. She will stay in England to rehab.
Howell, 21, earned her first cap three months ago against the Netherlands in the USA’s 2-0 win in Breda. She played for the USA in the 2016 Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan and 2018 Under-20 Women’s World Cup in France.
Howell helped Florida State to the 2018 NCAA Championship as a freshman and helped the Seminoles win the 2020 ACC title.
She is one of four players from Colorado on the national team. Lindsey Horan and Sophia Smith are also on the SheBelieves Cup roster. Mallory Pugh has been training with the team in Orlando, like Emily Fox and Howell.
