NWSL: Kansas City hires Amber Cox as chief operating officer

The new NWSL team in Kansas City has hired Amber Cox as its chief operating officer.

Cox was vice president of sports at Mohegan Sun in charge of all revenue-generating activities for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun and NLL’s New England Black Wolves.

She has a background in the NWSL, serving as the chief marketing officer for the Houston Dash and MLS's Houston Dynamo. She was also the associate commissioner for women’s basketball for the Big East Conference and president and COO for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury.

Because of the team's late start -- it was formed following the decision of the Utah Royals to drop out -- the Kansas City team will begin without a name or other branding attached to it.
