Europa League: American Jordan Siebatcheu scores twice in Young Boys' upset win

A trio of 20-year-old U.S. internationals started in the first leg of the Europe League's round of 32, but the American star was 24-year-old Jordan Siebatcheu, who scored two goals to lead Swiss club Young Boys to a 4-3 win over Germany's Bayer Leverkusen.

Siebatcheu, who has never played for the USA, was born in Washington, D.C., to Cameroonian parents and raised in France. He spent six seasons as a pro with Reims and Rennes, which loaned him to Young Boys after he failed to score in the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season.

Siebatcheu has scored eight goals in 19 Swiss Super League games for Young Boys, the runaway leader, and scored the winner with a tap-in of a rebound off the post in the 89th minute on Thursday after Leverkusen had rallied from 3-0 down in the second half.

-- Tim Weah scored in his second straight game for Lille in the Europa League, stealing a backpass from Argentine defender Nicolas Tagliafico and slotting the ball past keeper Maarten Stekelenburg to give Les Dogues the lead in the 72nd minute, but Ajax rallied for two late goals and escaped from the Stade Pierre Mauroy with a 2-1 win.

Weah's resurgence began in December when he came off the bench and sparked Lille's 2-1 comeback win at Sparta Prague that clinched a berth in the round of 32. He then scored in his first start of the season in the final group match, a 3-2 loss to Celtic.

Weah has only started six games for Lille but has now scored in four of them.

-- Chris Richards became the rare player to begin the European club season with one team in one competition and move to a second team playing in another competition.

The Alabaman, who played three games for defending champion Bayern Munich in the Champions League in the fall, started for Hoffenheim in its 3-3 tie at Norway's Molde. Richards, who moved to Hoffenheim on loan, was involved in the third Hoffenheim just before halftime, but Molde rallied from 3-1 down to earn a draw.

-- Brandon Aaronson made his debut in UEFA club play, starting in Salzburg's 2-0 loss at home to Spain's Villarreal. He exited the game in the 61st minute.
