Friday: College soccer updates

Defending conference champion Indiana, Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers won their 2021 Big Ten men's openers. The Big Ten, which features nine teams in men's soccer, is playing a conference-only schedule.

Defending women's champion Stanford rallied from a goal down to beat Pepperdine, 2-1, in a hastily arranged friendly.

Freshman forward Victoria Romero scored on a rebound of her own shot in the 71st minute to put the
Waves on the verge of beating Stanford for the second year in a row, but the Cardinal rallied for two goals in the last seven minutes.

Sierra Enge scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute and Civana Kuhlmann converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute after Madison Haley, the No. 7 pick in the 2021 NWSL College Draft, was fouled in the penalty area.
