Thursday: College soccer updates

For the first time in the history of its men's program, Liberty defeated North Carolina, 1-0. Noah Holmes scored the game-winning goal with a  a shot off the right-side post following a pass by midfielder Marko Mitrevski in the 52nd minute. The Flames (4-0-1) have not allowed a goal in five games.

Kendra Pasquale scored two goals, one in each half, to lead Illinois to a 3-0 win over Iowa. The Fighting Illini are the only Big Ten team to open with a 2-0-0 record.
