How good was
Daryl Dike's screamer for Barnsley in its 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday.
"In my 28 or 29 years in football," said the Tykes' French manager,
Valerien Ismael, "I have never seen a strike like that before. It was something unbelievable."
Dike scored his third goal for Barnsley since signing on loan from Orlando City with a curling blast to the near post that gave Birmingham keeper
Neil Etheridge no chance.
How big was the goal? It gave Barnsley a 1-0 win to preserve its record winning streak. The Tykes have won seven games in a row -- the most in the English second-tier in 100 years -- and moved into the English League Championship's top six.
Daryl Dike:
2018: Univ. of Virginia (5 goals in 13 games)
2019: Univ. of Virginia (10 goals in 23 games)
2020: Orlando City (8 goals in 17 games)
2021: Barnsley (3 goals in 7 games)
The top two teams win automatic promotion while the next teams advance to a playoff to determine the third team to move into the Premier League.
Weekend Focus: Daryl Dike boosts Barnsley's EPL promotion quest after stellar MLS rookie year "We've kept a clean sheet and we are in a brilliant position at the moment," added Ismael. "The transfer window was important for us and now we are getting the reward. I am delighted that we made some great choices."
Barnsley has won all seven games since the 20-year-old Dike arrived from MLS. He signed on Feb. 1, a day after debuting for the USA in its 7-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago. The cap was sufficient for him to obtain a British work visa.
"This is what you can achieve when you believe," added Ismael. "Everyone has the same vision, and everyone is hungry. We will have a clear picture of the table just before the international break."
Credit where it's due, that was an incredible strike. He may be setting himself up for a mid to bottom of the table EPL team transfer.
There isn't a goalie in the world who could have stopped that shot.
This is a nice, hard shot. It wasn't the shot itself, but where it went, no goalie could have stopped it, even having 2 goalies in there could not have ... notice he didn't even look where he shot the ball.
That is a wicked shot. Unbelievable power, perfect placement. I hope that's the beginning of a trend...
If he can make it in Barnsley, I think that answers the question of “But could be do it on a wet, windy Tuesday in Stoke?” More power to him!
I think he got a little bit of "Knuckle Ball" effect off the Shin Guard of the Opponent, but 100% of ALL Shots NOT Taken, Result in 0 Goals.!!!... TEQUILA.!!! Da-du Du-da da da, dada.. TEQUILA.!!!
