Copa del Rey: First title for Sergino Dest, first of a new era for Barca

Sergino Dest became the first American to win the Copa del Rey when Barcelona crushed Athletic Bilbao, 4-0, to win  Spain's oldest soccer competition.

Dest started and played 74 minutes before exiting with a 4-0 lead. Barca blew the game open with all four goals in a 13-minute span in the second half. The 20-year-old American had a relatively quiet game as the right wing back, his position in the Barca midfield.

Lionel Messi led Barca with two goals to give him a record nine goals in the Copa del Rey final.  It was his seventh Copa del Rey title and Barcelona's record 31st. But the trophy was the first since Joan Laporta took over as Barcelona president six weeks ago, amid a turbulent period for the Catalan club.

"Sometimes you fall down and you have to get up," veteran defender Gerard Pique said. "It has been a difficult year but the team has turned it around."

At the trophy presentation, the Barcelona players wore black tee-shirts with the message:  "La primera de una nueva era".
("The first of a new era").
