In 2001, we reported on collegians
Hope Solo ("A goalkeeper we need to keep an eye on") and
Abby Wambach ("made some personal lifestyle changes") getting called up to the U.S. national team by Coach
April Heinrichs. Also in the piece by Scott French,
Aleisha Cramer, who went on to earn 19 caps,
Jena Louise Cogswell (24 caps) and
Catherine "Cat" Reddick Whitehill, who won a gold medal with the USA in 2004 and appeared 134 times for the USA. Solo of course became the best goalkeeper in the history of the women's game, Wambach the USA's all-time leading scorer -- and both Olympic and World Cup champs.
