Olympics: Referee Ismail Elfath is one of five U.S. match officials headed to Japan

Ismail Elfath, the 2020 MLS Referee of the Year, has been chosen by FIFA to serve as a referee at the Summer Olympics in Japan.

Assistant referees Kyle Atkins and Corey Parker and video assistant referees Edvin Jurisevic and Chris Penso will also represent the USA in Japan.

FIFA announced 99 match officials from all six confederations to work in the men's and women's soccer competitions. It did not designate which competition in which they will work.

Two women -- Honduran Melissa Borjas and Mexican Lucila Venegas -- were named as referees to represent Concacaf at the Olympics.
