As Deadline Closes, Milan Targets Drogba

In a last-ditch effort to nab a striker before the transfer window closes tomorrow at 7 PM EST, AC Milan is expected to bid for Chelsea's Didier Drogba. Milan has made no secret that it is desperate to add another striker to its roster. After being thwarted in their pursuit of first Ronaldo and then Ricardo Oliveira of Real Betis, Milan has now entered into conversations with Chelsea to bring Drogba to the San Siro for what is believed to be a $40 million transfer fee. Milan VP Adriano Galliani allegedly met the Ivory Coast striker in a Milan restaurant, supposedly by chance, where Drogba expressed interest in a move. Chelsea is likely to be unwilling to let Drogba go if it can't line up a suitable replacement in the next 26 hours. Chelsea, like Milan, has just three viable striking options up top. Meanwhile, Milan the Italian club came a step closer to signing Lazio midfielder Massimo Oddo. The two clubs look set to agree to a $4 million co-ownership of the player, plus the free loan of Rossoneri winger Pasquale Foggia to Lazio.
