Spotlight

Leo Messi scored his 73rd goal in 151 appearances for Argentina with his 57th career free-kick goal (for club and country, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's 56 to take the lead among active players) in a 1-1 tie with Chile.

Messi's brilliant 27-yard strike that beat goalkeeper Claudio Bravo in the 33rd minute was equalized by Eduardo Vargas, who headed home a rebound of Arturo Vidal's penalty kick that Argentine keeper Emiliano Martinez tipped onto the crossbar.

The tie, its fourth in its last four games, extended Argentina’s unbeaten streak to 14 games under Coach Lionel Scaloni.

As of Sunday, 31 players and delegation members had tested positive for Covid-19, Brazil’s Ministry of Health announced on Monday.
