What They're Saying: FIFA Disciplinary Committee

"The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned the Mexican Federation with a fine of 60,000 Swiss francs [$65,000] and the condition that they play their next two official home games behind closed doors as a consequence of the anti-gay chants heard in the matches against the Dominican Republic and the United States, played in Guadalajara on March 18 and 24, respectively."

-- In the latest attempt to stop Mexican fans from using the homophobic "puto" chant, FIFA has ordered Mexico to play its next two home World Cup qualifiers without fans. Future breaches by Mexico fans of FIFA's statutes on discrimination could include a reduction in points in World Cup qualifying and Mexico being banned from FIFA tournaments including the World Cup.
