COVID-19: Oakland Roots forced to postpone next two games

The first-year USL Championship team Oakland Roots can't catch a break.

They had their first home game postponed at the last minute because of poor turf conditions at Laney College, which have forced them to move to Las Positas College in Livermore, 30 miles away. (The Roots hope to have a new playing surface ready in time to return to play at Laney on July 31.)

Now, they have postponed home games on Wednesday and Saturday against the Phoenix Rising and Tacoma Defiance due to several members on the club’s covered person list testing positive for COVID-19.

The individuals have been isolated at home and are beginning the process of recovering.

In the first 11 reports on league-wide testing, the USL Championship reported a combined four positive tests for COVID-19. In Tuesday's report on testing from July 5-11, 10 individuals from three teams were listed as testing positive.

The new dates for the two Oakland games:

Roots vs. Phoenix Rising: Aug. 25.
Roots vs. Tacoma Defiance: Sept. 15.
