COVID-19: Vaccinated Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes tests positive

Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes will miss Sunday's MLS match at Seattle, a showdown of the Western Conference's two top teams, after testing positive for COVID-19.

He confirmed two unidentified Sporting KC players have also tested positive for COVID-19 and won't travel to Seattle. The first-place Sounders have a five-point lead over Sporting KC, which has a game in hand.

"I was vaccinated," Vermes said on a media call. "It's unfortunate. I don't know how I got. I have no idea."

Vermes' symptoms have been minimal, which is consistent with the experience of most vaccinated individuals who have tested positive.

"My suggestion is get vaccinated," he said, "because I think the more you're vaccinated the less symptoms you'll have if you do get it."
