USL League Two: Busquets gives Des Moines Menace its second title

The Des Moines Menace won its second USL League Two title with a 1-0 win over North Carolina Fusion U23 in the championship game played Saturday night at Valley Stadium.

Barcelona native Manel Busquets, who played his first two college seasons at Duquesne and is now at Syracuse, scored the winner in the 56th minute. Busquets is one of four Spaniards on the Menace's multi-national squad. It includes players from 12 different countries, most of them NCAA Division I or Division II players in Des Moines for the summer.

The Menace (16-1-0) finished the season with a seven-game winning streak after losing to Chicago FC United, 2-0, on June 30. It was founded in 1994 and won a PDL title in 2005.

In late June, the Iowa Economic Development Authority approved provisional funding for a downtown development project that includes a new soccer stadium, part of the Menace's efforts to turn pro.
