What They're Saying: Hugo Sanchez

"He should be ashamed and hand in his resignation."

-- Former Mexican national team star Hugo Sanchez on El Tri coach Tata Martino following the 1-0 loss to the USA in the Gold Cup final, Mexico's second loss to the USA in a final in eight weeks. Sanchez was hired in January 2007 with the aim to lead Mexico to the 2010 World Cup, but he was fired after 15 months. Mexico played the USA three times during Sanchez's tenure, losing two -- including the 2007 Gold Cup final -- and tying one. (Futbol Picante)

Yes, Hugo.  Every time the manager of El Tri loses to the U.S., he should resign and the whole national team should be redeveloped. *snark*

I do suspect the FMF will soon want more finals in home territory.  The losses on U.S. soil are probably wearing pretty thin ...

Since the crowd at the Gold Cup final was increadibly heavily pro-Mexican I don't think that this will be a big reason the Mexicans consider they have been losing.

I went to Azteca in 2017.  There were more Americans there then at LV game on Sunday.  Mexicans definitely had home-field advantage.  For the USMNT to pull off a win with such a pro-mexican team, I am SO PROUD OF THEM!
