Playoffs: MLS will play on Thanksgiving for first time

Major League Soccer released its schedule for the 2021 playoffs, which include the league’s first Thanksgiving Day match.

The broadcast schedule includes four consecutive weekends of postseason action on ABC as well as the Thanksgiving Day game, a conference semifinal match, on FOX.

MLS Cup will be played on Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. ET, aired on ABC and Univision’s UniMas and TUDN networks.

Fourteen of MLS's 27 teams -- seven in each conference -- will make the playoffs. The conference winners will have a bye in Round One. In 2020, the playoff field was expanded to 18 of 26 for the season shortened due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
