Maximum National Soccer Hall of Fame class size increased to six inductees

New criteria for election to the National Soccer Hall of Fame will allow up to a maximum of six inductees for the Class of 2022, an increase from four adopted for the new process put in place for the Class of 2021.

The class size and criteria for election was changed with the Class of 2021:

Player: 2 (top two vote-getters receiving 50+ percent).
Veteran: 1 (top vote-getter receiving 50+ percent).
Builder: 1 (top vote-getter receiving 50+ percent).

-- If there is either no Veteran or no Builder inductee, then a third Player will be selected if he or she is named on at least 66.7% of the ballots.

-- If there is no Veteran and no Builder inductee, then a third Player will be selected if he or she receives at least 50% support.

The class changes to take effect with with the Class of 2022:

Player: 2 or 3 (top two vote-getters receiving 50+ percent or top three vote-getters if they all receive 75+ percent).
Veteran: 1 or (top vote-getter receiving 50+ percent or top two vote-getters of they both receive 75+ percent).
Builder: 1 (top vote-getter receiving 50+ percent).

If there is either no Veteran or no Builder inductee, then a third Player will be selected if he or she is named on at least 66.7% of the ballots.

If there is no Veteran and no Builder inductee, then a third Player will be selected if he or she receives at least 50% support.

In the Class of 2021, the top four vote-getters in the Player category and top three vote-getters in the Veteran category received 75+ percent of the votes.

Christine Pearce Rampone and Steve Cherundolo were elected as Players and Jaime Moreno was elected as the Veteran. Hope Solo and Shannon Boxx also received 75+ percent of the votes as Players. The same for Marco Etcheverry and Kate Markgraf as Veterans. (Moreno and Etcheverry were tied with 95.8%, 23 of 24 ballots.)

Kevin Payne was elected as the Builder with 79.2% of the vote.

    Regardless of your feelings about how Hope Solo conducted herself, she is probably the best female keeper the US has produced and possibly one of the best female keepers ever.  She deserves to bevin the HOF.
