Sergino Dest's Barcelona fires embattled head coach Ronald Koeman

Sergino Dest became the second American playing on a major European team whose Dutch coach was fired in a less than a week.

After John Brooks' Wolfsburg, which fired Mark van Bommel on Sunday, Dest's Barcelona dismissed head coach Ronald Koeman on Wednesday.

The move came moments after Barca's 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano, which dropped it to ninth in LaLiga, six points below the top four after 10 games.

No announcement on Koeman's successor was made, but the favorite to replace him is former Barca star Xavi. the current coach of Qatar Stars League club Al Sadd.

Like against Real Madrid, which beat Barcelona, 2-1, in Sunday's El Clasico, Dest missed a close-range chance against Rayo. Memphis Depay played a ball into the middle, where Dest's off-balanced shot with his left foot missed the target.

The two misses have overshadowed Dest's otherwise positive contributions in the sputtering Barca attack.

Barcelona had a chance to pull even in the 72nd minute when Depay was fouled in the area, but the Dutchman's penalty kick was saved by Rayo's Macedonian keeper, Stole Dimitrievski.

And the Barca board continues the tragic decline of the club. Sad.

This is the best thing that has happened to Koeman.....This is a sinking ship. It had had been sinking little by little since Guardiola left. I quit watching BARCELONA  about 7years ago, the handwriting on the wall began to show, then....
Barcelona has become an institution for soccer . By that I mean just hiring another coach like they do at Real Madrid and buy some players to make it a good team does not fit Barca soccer. Barca soccer stands for something, it was the flagship for soccer in all forms, coaching, tactics, developing players,etc....

It calls for a Guardiola to come back or other greats to start the process. This will take a few years to continue the Cruyffian philosophy/principles of soccer along with cleaning and getting rid of the board at Barca....

Xavi now has maximum leverage, though I doubt the board will live up to the promises they will make to him. He is still young. I hope they get him to work on La Masia and Barca B for a couple of years first, to flush out the unrepentant speedbumps and bring back the blood that made it work 20 years ago. A full rebuild is in order.
