Milan Signs Oliveira, Eyes Others as Deadline Approaches

Milan got their striker, but it isn't Ronaldo. Instead, Ricardo Oliveira, another talented Brazilian, has signed a five-year deal with the Italian giants after his club Real Betis accepted $22 million plus Swiss midfielder Johann Vogel in return. The negotiations over the striker's future, which had been ongoing, appeared to hit an impasse after Betis upped its price demand for Oliveira, who had only just returned to the club after a loan spell with Brazil's Copa Libertadores Champions Internacional. Milan has been absolutely desperate to add another striker after Andriy Shevchenko's departure for Cheslea left the club with just two proven goal scorers, Filippo Inzaghi and Alberto Gilardino. Football Italia suggests that Oliveira's arrival at the San Siro could open the door one day for Ronaldinho to join him, as Oliveira's agent is the Barcelona forward's brother and agent, Roberto de Assis Moreira. Next on Milan's list before the transfer deadline closes later today is Lazio's Massimo Oddo, who may now arrive on a $3 million loan. Milan will loan youngster Pasquale Foggia to Lazio in exchange. Udinese's Vicenzo Iaquinta is another late transfer prospect; Milan is said to be preparing a $19 million bid for player, who was a member of Italy's World Cup-winning squad.
