The U.S. U-17 national team drew 0-0 with UAG ("Tecos") of Mexico March 29 in action at the Dallas Cup. The USA will play Group D leaders SC Corinthians (Brazil) on March 31 to conclude
first-round play. Corinthians beat UAG Tecos, 3-0 and FC Augsburg of Germany 5-1. The top two finishers from each group advance to the quarterfinals on April 2 and the USA needs a win to assure
advancement to the next round. If the U-17s draw against SC Corinthians the USA will need help from the UAG-FC Augsburg match to advance to the quarterfinals. The USA will also be missing four
starters due to injuries and/or card suspensions: Alexander Yi (ACL), Oguchi Onyewu (hip-flexor), Seth Trembly (red card suspension) and Kyle Beckerman (accumulation of two yellow cards and a one
game suspension). The U-17s are in preparation for their home-and-home playoff series against El Salvador for the third and final CONCACAF berth for the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Championship to be
hosted by New Zealand in November. The venue and kickoff time of the USA-El Salvodor on May 9 has been changed to the Juan Francisco Barraza Stadium in San Miguel, El Salvador. The second leg will
be played at the newly built Columbus Crew Stadium on May 22 and will be the first of an MLS doubleheader.
