Youth: 300-plus teams to compete MLS Next Fest in California

Launched in 2020, MLS Next Season 2 features a Dec. 3-7 gathering of more than 300 teams at the SilverLakes Sports Complex in Norco, California, for the MLS NEXT Fest Showcase and Generation adidas Cup Qualifiers.

In the showcase competition, more than 260 MLS Next teams -- seeded in groups based on their performance in the fall portion of the 2021-22 MLS Next regular season -- in four age categories (U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-19) will play three games in four days.

Forty-five MLS academies across the U-15 and U-17 age divisions will compete for seeding in next year’s Generation adidas Cup.


The event will be attended by U.S. Soccer’s Director of Talent Identification, Tony Lepore, his staff, youth national team coaches, college coaches, and more than a dozen MLS Next Match Evaluators.

MLS NEXT Fest Showcase players are eligible for selection to the Fest Best Of Matches, two games of select players on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Event buildup will include a week of virtual programming for players, parents, coaches, and referees. U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter, Canada coach John Herdman, Sonja Robinson (for discussions on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and Alan Black (Professional Referee Organization) are among the presenters.
