Road to Santa Clara: BYU advances to Women's College Cup for first time

BYU jumped out to a 2-0 lead over South Carolina after a quarter of an hour and cruised to a 4-1 win before a sold-out crowd of 4,131 fans at South Field in Provo to advance to the Women's College Cup for the first time.

The unseeded Gamecocks reduced BYU's lead just before halftime, but the Cougars dominated the second half with a 15-1 edge in shots.

Mikayla Colohan and Makaylie Moore scored two goals apiece for BYU. South Carolina keeper Heather Hinz finished with a career-high 11 saves.

BYU has reached the NCAA Tournament 22 times in 25 seasons under head coach Jennifer Rockwell, who started the Cougar program in 1995. It previously lost in the quarterfinals three times (2003, 2012 and 2019).

The Cougars will meet WCC rival Santa Clara, the defending national champion and this year's College Cup host, in Friday's semifinals.
